NewcastleWorld and the Shields Gazette editor, Liam Kennedy, has years of experience in sport and local journalism under his belt. From starting out on work experience with the Shields Gazette more than 15 years ago, he now heads up the digital operation for both that title, and one of NationalWorld's original city website launches, newcastleworld.com. Liam has worked for the company for eight years, having previously been employed as a football writer for the Gazette, Hartlepool Mail and Sunderland Echo. He was appointed editor of NewcastleWorld in September 2021 and then took up the role at the Gazette in January 2023. Liam has previously worked for the Dundee Evening Telegraph, Newark Advertiser and Sportsbeat and has recently featured on national titles such as the BBC, Al Jazeera and TalkSPORT. His passion is for football, travel, video and the spoken word. As well as heading up the title, Liam still helps out with Newcastle United coverage for NewcastleWorld and can be spotted as one third of the popular 'Geordie Journos' channel on YouTube. Born and bred in the area with links north and south of the Tyne, Liam was brought up in Wallsend, then Killingworth, before returning to live in South Shields after stints in London, Nottingham and Dundee. He bleeds black and white, with a real passion for North East culture and identity. When not spotted at St James' Park, or anywhere a team in black and white is playing, he is a regular contributor to our lifestyle and food and drink sections, giving our readers a real taste of culinary offerings either side of the Tyne.
