Mayor of Hartlepool tests positive for coronavirus

Hartlepool’s Ceremonial Mayor has tested positive for coronavirus.

Councillor Brenda Loynes, who took over the chains of office in May 2019, is fighting Covid-19 in isolation.

A Hartlepool Borough Council spokesperson said: “We can confirm Councillor Brenda Loynes, the Ceremonial Mayor of Hartlepool, has contracted coronavirus.

“Councillor Loynes was in hospital for a procedure where she will now stay for a period of isolation.

“She is responding well to treatment and everyone at Hartlepool Borough Council sends their very best wishes for a speedy recovery.”

Coun Loynes represents the Rural West ward, and is a member of the Conservative party.
