Plans for new business premises in Hartlepool's Brenda Road approved

Plans have been approved for new industrial units for businesses looking to set up shop in Hartlepool.

The two buildings, which could be used as “general industrial” premises such as engineering workshops or general factories, are planned on land south of Seymour Skills Academy, near Seaton Carew.

The plans, from applicant Ben Brownless, were submitted last year and also proposed the construction of a new site access from Brenda Road.

In addition, the proposal includes 12 car parking spaces, including two disabled spaces, fencing and areas to allow for the manoeuvring of HGVs and other vehicles.

Hartlepool Borough Council’s planning department has now approved the application.

They said the proposal was of an “appropriate scale and form” and would not create an “adverse impact” on neighbours, or impact views from a bridleway running along the southern boundary.

The council decision report adds: “On balance, it is considered that, subject to planning conditions, the proposal would not adversely impact upon highway safety, ecology of the area or any other material planning consideration.”

A previous planning statement from developers said the plans would benefit Hartlepool by using vacant land for employment purposes.

It added that the site sits near a training centre for a civil engineering contractor and other industrial businesses and that the new units would be “in keeping with the prevailing character of the area”.

Under planning conditions, work must start on site within three years.
