The latest initiative from Hartlepool Carers is called Box Clever.

The scheme involves free boxes of food which only registered carers can apply for. The boxes contain cupboard essentials and fresh vegetables which vary depending on stock availability.

Once they get the box, applicants will get support on how to get the most out of the produce they have been given as well as help on budget management.

Hartlepool Carers chief executive Christine Fewster said: “Box Clever is a new project to support families with basic cooking skills, budget management, shopping effectively and showing how to get the most of your food.

"Boxes contain fresh products as well as store cupboard goods, with recipes to create delicious meals and snacks.

"Carers sign up and we put together boxes to deliver. They change slightly due to demand but all incorporate food products with recipes. It also has other useful resources such as budget management, and shopping effectively.

“With school holidays approaching we know families will be in further financial hardship and find re-engaging in community activities difficult following lockdown.

“Box Clever focuses on our community engaging in fun activities together from their home. We have a dedicated social media platform for all participants to share their meals and ideas.”

Christine added: “When lockdown and restrictions are eased we aim for everyone to meet up, share ideas and have a community kitchen meal together.”

Registered carers should call (01429) 283095.
