Pete Wild sets challenge for two-goal Hartlepool United striker after Leeds United win
Striker Terry Bondo scored twice in Hartlepool United’s National League Cup win against Leeds United Under-21s.
Hartlepool United head coach Pete Wild has urged striker Terry Bondo to build on his two-goal display in Tuesday night’s National League Cup win against Leeds United Under-21s.
The former Blackpool youngster has endured a challenging start to his time with Pools after moving to Victoria Park during the summer and has been exclusively used as a substitute during the league season. However, Bondo was handed a chance to impress from the start in the meeting with the Whites’ prospects and he made a big impact by grabbing a goal in each half as Wild’s side earned their first win in this season’s competition.
Speaking after the game, the Pools boss praised Bondo and believes the young forward can take confidence from grabbing his first competitive goals for the club. He told Red Radio: “He’s had an opportunity, hasn’t he? He’s done well tonight, we were pleased with him, that’ll do his confidence, because I think he’s very much a confidence player, that’ll do his confidence the world of good. I’m pleased he has gone and got a couple of goals because he’s a centre forward and centre forwards are matched against goals and he’s got a couple of goals tonight.”

Approach

Wild also praised his players for the approach they showed towards their final game of this season’s National League Cup and he insisted they must now look to replicate that approach as they move forward in their bid to move away from the relegation zone in non-league’s top tier.
He said: “I thought the approach to the game was the biggest thing. It was something I’ve been driving every day, that we approach every day properly, and every game properly, and I thought the way they approached the game was excellent. The way they have gone about their business is excellent against a really good Leeds side. I thought they were really good, especially second-half. They’ve got some top players who move the ball really, really well and I thought we had to defend well at times, we created some good chances, but again, the approach to the game and that’s how we have to approach day of training and every game is in that manner.”
