Plans unveiled for new HMO in Hartlepool's Elwick Road

A home in Hartlepool could be transformed into a six-person house in multiple occupation (HMO) under new plans.

Proposals have been submitted to Hartlepool Borough Council’s planning department to change the use of a property at 5 Elwick Road.

This includes a bid for a proposed change of use “to a small HMO for up to six occupiers”.

The certificate of lawfulness application aims to secure confirmation that the specific use of the house as a HMO is lawful under planning regulations.

The application adds that no external alterations are proposed and notes the plans show one shared kitchen and living room plus one shared entrance serving the whole property.

An accompanying planning statement noted the HMO layout would include six individual bedrooms catering for one resident per bedroom as well as a rear yard with space for bin storage.

A decision on the certificate of lawfulness application is expected to be made later this year.
