FC Halifax Town manager hints at changes for Hartlepool United test
Hartlepool United visit National League rivals FC Halifax Town on Tuesday night.
FC Halifax Town manager John McGrath has revealed he could make changes to his side for Tuesday’s home game with Hartlepool United on the back of the Shaymen’s second-half performance in their home defeat against Altrincham.
The former Buxton boss took charge at The Shay during the summer and has endured a challenging start to life in the National League after his side were beaten in three of their four games during the early weeks of the new season. After suffering back-to-back defeats against Forest Green Rovers and Boreham Wood, McGrath racked up the first three points of his reign when a Zak Gilsenan brace and a goal apiece from Conor Carty and Ben Tollit gave his side a 4-1 home win against Tamworth.

However, a deeply disappointing first-half display set the foundations for a third defeat of the campaign on Friday night as first-half goals from Jimmy Knowles and former Pools midfielder Tom Crawford put Altrincham in control at the J. Davidson Stadium. A Matty Kosylo own goal was the sum token of Halifax’s reply during the second 45 minutes - although there was some improvement from McGrath’s side after he introduced Owen Bray and David Kawa into the action at half-time.
The Shaymen boss has now hinted a number of players have ‘put themselves in the shop window’ to be handed a start when his side face Lee Clark’s men on Tuesday night.

He told The Courier: "The loss to Forest Green, there were some individual errors in there, but in the main the lads gave it a good go for 90 minutes - and we had been progressively getting better as the games have gone by. There's players who played second-half (at Altrincham) who certainly put themselves in the shop window to start against Hartlepool. I want to win games of football and I've got, I keep harping on about this, 22, 23 man squad and there's no point having them if I don't use them. It was exactly the reaction I wanted second-half."
