Hartlepool United transfer news: Pete Wild issues intriguing squad update

Pete Wild has revealed the transfer situation at Hartlepool United.

Pete Wild has provided a transfer update at Hartlepool United and outlined what the current situation is in terms of improving the squad.

Having taken charge at Pools, Wild was eager to bolster his options with experienced players and brought in attacking midfielder Jack Earing and defenders Sam Lavelle and Max Clark on short term deals. Struggling Pools host Hornchurch at The Vic on Saturday (KO 3pm) and while they head into the league game on the back of the 4-2 win over Forest Green Rovers in the league, successive cup defeats have again dampened spirits.

Explaining the transfer situation, Wild told BBC Tees Sport: “We had a good discussion with the football club [on Wednesday] around that, around where we are financially. We will need to move some out to move some in. That's the nature of the beast. We will look to see how we do that.

“You don't want to just move five out and leave yourself short. You've got to make sure you cover yourself in the building, especially next week with the three games but we will look now working with Chris Maxwell to try and make sure that we can move some out, to move some in, and free some stuff up in the budget that can get me maybe some players that suit the way I want to do things more and some players that maybe don't suit how we're going to do things. They can go and get what they need.”

This week saw movement with youngster Campbell Darcy completing a loan move to Hebburn Town after agreeing to a third separate spell with the National League North club. The versatile wing-back initially joined the Hornets during the early stages of their successful bid for the Northern Premier League Premier Division title win last season before returning to the Trustmark Group Stadium for the final months of the campaign. Darcy spoke of his delight at the part he played in securing a historic title win and both parties were believed to be keen to secure another loan deal during the summer months.

Darcy’s move to Hebburn has led to fellow Pools youngster Kian Foreman being recalled from his own loan spell with the National League North club.

Wild added: “I think with the young players at the moment, I don't think it's the young players problem. I think what we need to do with our young players is make sure that they're playing football constantly so they can develop in their career. I came from a youth development background. I know how hard it is for young players who just live on that periphery and they're not really sure where they stand in the group.

“Let's get our young players playing. Let's get the older pros dealing with the problem and then when everything settles down we can take stock of our good young players and see where they're up to and see how then they fit in the wider discussion.”
