Hartlepool United 'pushing' to sign 19-goal winger after Morecambe departure

The latest transfer talk from Hartlepool United as Lee Clark looks to boost his squad ahead of his first season in charge at Victoria Park.

Hartlepool United are reportedly pushing to sign winger Jack Nolan following his departure from Morecambe - and are in the race to sign Spennymoor Town attacking midfielder Corey McKeown.

Pools completed their first signing of what is expected to be a hectic summer when former loan star Jordan Hugill agreed to a second spell at Victoria Park just over 11 years after he helped Ronnie Moore’s side preserve their EFL status with a ‘great escape’ from relegation during the final weeks of the 2014/15 season. New head coach Lee Clark and recently appointed head of recruitment Chris Beech are working hard to add further new faces to the squad ahead of the return to pre-season training later this month - and former Morecambe winger Nolan is said to be on their list of priorities after the Shrimps confirmed he had departed after 19 goals in 39 games during their unsuccessful bid to avoid relegation from the National League.

A club statement released over the weekend read: “Morecambe Football Club can confirm that Jack Nolan has informed the club of his decision to pursue a new opportunity ahead of the 2026/27 season. Having joined the Shrimps in September 2025, Nolan quickly established himself as a key figure and fan favourite at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium.

“The winger enjoyed an outstanding campaign, producing a series of influential performances and finishing the season as the club's leading goalscorer and Player of the Season. Everyone at Morecambe Football Club would like to place on record our thanks to Jack for his efforts, professionalism and commitment during his time with the club. We wish Jack and his family every success for the future.”

BBC Tees’ Rob Law has now reported Pools are pursuing a deal for the former Gillingham winger and are also keen on Spennymoor Town star Corey McKeown, who worked under Clark during the latter’s time in charge of Blyth Spartans.

He posted on X: “Understand Hartlepool ARE pushing hard to sign Jack Nolan - firmly in the race for his signature. Pools looking to make a statement this summer. Also leading the way for Spennymoor’s McKeown. Work still to do but Maxwell, Beech & Clark making progress.”
