'Hopefully' - Hartlepool United star delivers verdict on Pete Wild's first month in charge

Pete Wild has now been in charge of Hartlepool United for a month - and one Pools star believes his head coach has made a positive impact.

Jamie Miley has reflected positively on Pete Wild’s first month in charge of Hartlepool United - and has insisted the foundations are in place for an improved run of form.

The former Barrow and FC Halifax Town head coach was appointed as permanent successor to Lee Clark less than 48 hours before taking his place in the Victoria Park dugout for a narrow home defeat against fellow National League strugglers Tamworth. A first win of Wild’s reign followed seven days later when braces from Nathan Sheron and Jordan Hugill helped Pools to a much-needed 4-2 win at Forest Green Rovers - but the good feeling from that victory was washed away by a disappointing FA Cup fourth qualifying round defeat at the hands of National League North club Marine.

Pools did bounce back with a 2-1 victory against Hornchurch but their inconsistencies have come to the fore once again after back-to-back defeats against AFC Fylde and Boreham Wood left them sitting in the National League relegation zone as they now enter a two-week break from on-field league action. The break will allow Wild and his coaching staff to get down to more hard work on the training pitch in preparation for a home game with Wealdstone on Saturday week - and midfielder Miley believes the break can help his new head coach continue to bring improvements out of his side.

He told BBC Radio Tees: “I’m really enjoying it, there’s a proper system and you can see on the pitch that everyone is playing for each other, everyone is doing as much as they can and I think hopefully the results will come soon. That second-half performance, you can see the foundations are there and I think small margins, if we get them right we will definitely get the results. We didn’t want to be out of the FA Cup but we just have to take that now and it’s a good time to recover and go again because it’s been a busy week.”
