Jordan Hugill on his coaching ambitions and helping fellow Hartlepool United forwards

Jordan Hugill is enjoying his second spell at The Vic.

Experienced Hartlepool United striker Jordan Hugill is enjoying his second spell at The Vic despite the troubles on the pitch for Pools as they battle at the wrong end of the National League table.

The 34-year-old Middlesbrough-born striker, who has featured for the likes of Preston North End, West Ham United, Middlesbrough and Norwich City, has a wealth of experience to call upon and he has become a key cog in Pete Wild’s dressing room - and Hugill has revealed he has one eye on his future plans too.

Hugill is enjoying life alongside fellow summer signings; Chris Popov, Will Harris and Terry Bondo and passing on helpful hints and tips on the training ground.

Hugill told the Mail: “I want to help in any way that I can. If I'm not playing, I want to make people better and as I said, I've got the experience of playing in every league above the National League. So if I can pass on my experience to them and hopefully help them go on to where they want their careers to go, then that's brilliant for me.

“Ultimately, I want everyone to be better so it gets us to where we want to be as a team. I like to pass on stuff that I've been taught and I had that done to me when I was their age and then hopefully we can all improve together. It's kind of like a big part of what I came to this club for as well. Not only to perform on the pitch, I want to help. I want to make people better.”

Hugill is 34 and while he is undoubtedly in the latter stages of his playing career he has no plans to hang up his boots just yet. When asked if the coaching side was an avenue he wanted to explore, Hugill told the Mail: “It's something that I'm doing at the moment. I am doing my licences at the moment so it's something that I have thought about.

“It's one of those things where I don't know whether it'd be a waste to throw away that experience I've got, so it might be something that I think about in the future but as I said, I'm not focused on that for me yet. I want Hartlepool to do well. I want to be part of a squad that does well and ultimately, I came here to get this club promoted and I want to push towards that.”
