Pete Wild gives fitness update on Hartlepool United duo Luke Charman and Max Kouogun

Hartlepool United head coach Pete Wild discusses the fitness of Luke Charman and Max Kouogun.

Hartlepool United head coach Pete Wild has delivered a message of caution over the fitness of Max Kouogun and Luke Charman.

Former AFC Fylde and Rochdale forward Charman was not named in the Pools squad for Tuesday night’s National League Cup win against Leeds United Under-21s after he picked up an injury after being introduced as a substitute during Saturday’s dramatic defeat at league leaders Boreham Wood. Defender Kouogun was named as a substitute against the Whites youngsters after scoring in the weekend loss and he was introduced into the action at half-time before being replaced by academy product Noah Galbraith with just over ten minutes remaining.

Wild has revealed both Charman and Kouogun will be assessed on Thursday morning before decisions are taking on whether they will train over the coming days.

He said: “We believe Luke will be ok. He will be assessed on Thursday morning whether he is ready to train or not so fingers crossed with that.” On Kouogun, he added: “It was precautionary. He obviously went back on, we didn’t think he was moving that well so we said get him off, let’s get him off and see where he’s up to. We will assess him Thursday morning and see if he’s ok.”

Last month’s FA Cup fourth qualifying round defeat at the hands of National League North club Marine has left Pools with a rare free weekend and they now face a ten-day wait to return to action. A trip to face a Wealdstone side sitting three points and three places above them in the table is next on the agenda and Wild has revealed how the coming days will look for his players as they look to build on their win against Leeds youngsters.

He said: “We are going to train on Thursday and Friday, we are going to have an in-house game on Saturday morning and then all roads lead to Wealdstone next Saturday, which we are all looking forward to.”
