'That's our mantra' - Lee Clark delivers passionate message to Hartlepool United players ahead of Woking test
Hartlepool United head coach Lee Clark has a strong message for his squad ahead of Woking visit.
Lee Clark has urged his Hartlepool United players to continue playing without fear - and has urged them to always try and be positive and get on the front foot.
After an impressive opening week to the new National League campaign, with back-to-back wins over Barrow and Aldershot Town, the past couple of weeks have proved trickier, with three straight defeats - including away at Halifax Town on Tuesday. Pools have a good chance to bounce straight back on Saturday afternoon with the visit of Woking to the North East - and head coach Clark has encouraged his players to be positive.
Clark told the Mail: “Play without fear, that's our mantra, press without fear, play without fear - that's what we tell the players, you know, being positive. If someone wants to leave three up against our corners, we're not bothered, we're going to take the risk to try and get a goal, we're not going to leave four back.

“If we need to make positive changes, Aldershot at the end where I had all four attackers on. If you're losing 2-1, you might as well lose 3-1, you might as well try and get 2-2 and win 3-2. It's not having fear, not being protective, we don't want draws, we want wins. If you play three games and you draw three, people see you're unbeaten but you might as well win two and lose one, so that's it. It's driving that mantra, front foot, press without fear, play without fear.
“Saw that against Eastleigh, saw it against Barrow, saw it against Aldershot and then saw it in the first 23 minutes against Halifax. We have got to continue with that. Just because we've been knocked off our path, you know, there's been roadworks so we've had to go out and deviate off our path but it doesn't mean that we don't get back on our path by continuing to do the same things.”
