The Box Clever scheme from Hartlepool Carers, which was a success earlier in the year, is being extended.

The scheme involves free boxes of food which only registered carers can apply for. The boxes contain cupboard essentials and fresh vegetables which vary depending on stock availability.

Once they get the box, applicants will get support on how to get the most out of the produce they have been given as well as help on budget management.

Hartlepool Carers chief executive Christine Fewster said: “We have got some additional funding to extend our Box Initiative Scheme. It provides carers and families with a box of ingredients to cook nutritious meals for a family of four.”

Christine said at the time: “Box Clever is a new project to support families with basic cooking skills, budget management, shopping effectively and showing how to get the most of your food.

"Boxes contain fresh products as well as store cupboard goods, with recipes to create delicious meals and snacks.

"Carers sign up and we put together boxes to deliver. They change slightly due to demand but all incorporate food products with recipes. It also has other useful resources such as budget management, and shopping effectively.”

Today, Christine added: “It would be great to get new carers registered to enable us to provide support to them throughout the coming months.”
