Former Hartlepool United and Newcastle United star Peter Beardsley returns to Pools
Former Hartlepool and England star Peter Beardsley was back in town as the main speaker at a football talk in.
The sell-out event at the Corporation Club, in Whitby Street, also featured former Pools legend Joe Allon and was compered by town BBC Tees radio presenter Paul "Goffy" Gough.
Beardsley scored twice for the club during the 1998-99 season with his second goal securing a vital victory over Leyton Orient to help Chris Turner's side avoid relegation from the Football League.
Now 56, he spoke about his time at Victoria Park and his glittering career playing up front for Newcastle United, Liverpool, Everton and England.
Beardsley, now the Magpies' under-23 coach, said afterwards: "It was great to be back in Hartlepool at the weekend and to see so many familiar faces from my happy times at the 'Vic'.
"Hartlepool is always a result I look out for and my great friend Brain Honour keeps me updated every week with the team and how they are playing via his involvement at the club.
"Brian, tells me they are grinding out results which is never a bad thing. I have not yet met the new manager Craig Harrison, but again, the feedback I hear is all positive."
"Hartlepool is very much a football town and there is always a good buzz for the club whenever I go back. I really wish them well in their quest to get back to where the club belongs in league football.
"A couple of Pools legends, Paul Baker and Mick Tait, work with me at Newcastle United these days and we are always chatting about our happy times at the Vic and wishing the club well."
The event was staged by Hartlepool-based Andy Husband Promotions.
Andy, who brought former Liverpool legends John Barnes and Ian Rush to town earlier this year, said: "It has been fantastic to bring these football legends to my hometown and I want to thank every person that has backed me.
"Peter Beardsley was fantastic and he really has topped off a great run for me. I often hear people saying that Hartlepool deserves this kind of show and I just decided to do something about it by staging this series of big name shows.
"I have many more ideas and plans for the town as people have backed me with their support."
