Annual run to remember much-loved Hartlepool woman set to go virtual and global
A charity run in memory of a much-loved woman who died in a car crash is once again going virtual and global.
Phil Holbrook organises the Summer #SallyRun in aid of his late wife Sally in aid of Alice House Hospice every year.
She was tragically killed in a car crash on the A689 near Greatham just before Christmas in 2012 aged 48.
Phil was also in the car and had to learn to walk again as a result of his own injuries.
The 5k Summer #SallyRun is now an established annual event in the #TeamSally Challenges calendar and takes place on Wednesday, June 23.
Due to ongoing Covid restrictions, supporters are once again being asked to run their own course and share it online.
Urging people to follow social distancing guidelines, Phil, 60, a retired council officer from the Fens, Hartlepool said: “As we can’t take part all together, this year’s event, in memory of Sally and in aid of Alice House Hospice, is once again going virtual and global.
"Last year, we had people, as well as alpacas, pygmy goats and dogs taking part all over England, as well as in the Irish Republic, Scotland and even Columbus Ohio in the USA.”
For a minimum donation of just £1, people can register to run, jog, walk, push or toddle 3.1miles anytime and place from June 23 to June 30.
Upon completion participants will get an e-certificate to recognise their achievement.
They are encouraged to take pictures of their journey and upload them using the hashtag #TeamSally.
