On his 100th birthday, Thursday, April 30, Captain Tom has been made an honorary colonel.

Hide AdThe ‘true gentleman’ won the hearts of the nation when he embarked on a fundraiser – with an initial target of £1,000 – to support the NHS by walking 100 laps of his garden.
Now he’s raised over £31million for the NHS and is currently at number one of the UK’s music charts for his duet to ‘You’ll never walk alone’ with Michael Ball.
He is the first 100-year-old to ever have a number 1 hit.
