Hartlepool dance students to stage 'stunning show' for Alice House Hospice

Dance students across the town are set to perform in a fundraising showcase to raise vital funds for Alice House Hospice.

Over 200 children and young people from Karen Liddle’s School of Dance and Hartlepool Sixth Form College will take part in the showcase, ‘All of the Lights’, at Hartlepool Sixth Form College, in Blakelock Road, to support Hartlepool’s Alice House Hospice.

Alice House Hospice is the only adult hospice in Hartlepool, Tees Valley and East Durham, offering vital services to thousands of families every year.

Gil Parker, organiser of Alice House Hospice’s fundraiser, said: “As a team, we had a discussion about how we could fundraise effectively using my existing link to Karen Liddle’s School of Dance and my new role as fundraiser.”

Gil started working for the fundraising team at Alice House Hospice in September 2022 and has worked for Karen Liddle’s School of Dance as a street dance teacher since April 2016.

Speaking about the performance, Gil said: “It is a stunning show featuring the talented students of Karen Liddle’s School of Dance and Hartlepool Sixth Form College Performing Arts students.”

The performance will showcase dance styles including jazz, tap, street dance and ballet, as well as musical theatre and singing.

Jane Reed, the campus principal at Hartlepool Sixth Form College, has also given them the college’s theatre stage at no extra cost.

Ms Reed said: “All the Lights will be our first major external performance booking since before the pandemic and what better way to welcome the public back to our theatre than with an event for Alice House Hospice, who make a huge difference to the lives of many families each year.”

She added: “Hartlepool Sixth Form College is delighted to be supporting Karen Liddle School of Dance and our students have gained much from contributing to the show.”

Speaking about Hartlepool Sixth Form College, Gil added: “We have a great relationship with Jane Reed.”

Ms Reed is looking forward to the performance in March and hopes to host more events like it in the future.

The showcase will take place on Friday, March 24, and Sunday, March 26, at 7pm, and on Saturday, March 25 at 2pm.
