Hartlepool United transfer news: Cole Deeming & Lee Clark react as Pools land West Bromwich midfielder on loan

Hartlepool United confirm new signing.

Hartlepool United have confirmed the loan signing of Cole Deeming from Championship side West Bromwich Albion on loan until January.

Deeming has been handed the no42 shirt and trained at Maiden Castle with his new Pools teammates on Friday. The 19-year-old midfielder is eligible to play for Pools on loan until January, 2, and will be available for selection ahead of Saturday’s Enterprise National League fixture against Woking at The Vic. Hailing from Halesowen, Deeming is a left-footed central midfielder.

Deeming said: “I’m buzzing to be here. I trained this morning, and I can’t wait to get going. At my age I want to play games, so when I spoke to people at the club and the gaffer, and they told me that they want to fight for promotion, that sold the move for me.”

Head Coach Lee Clark said: “We’re delighted to sign Cole; he’s someone we’ve had an eye on for a while, and we’ve seen how well he did at Cheltenham Town. He’s also gained experience in this league with Truro, and the staff at West Brom speak really highly of him.

“We feel like he’s the type of midfield player we could do with to supplement and work alongside the other players. I’m thrilled we’ve got it over the line, and I’m looking forward to working with him.”

The confirmation of Deeming’s signature comes 24-hours after Clark said he wouldn’t stockpile players and praised the 'unbelievable' backing in the transfer market this summer - and said in his pre-match press conference he has complete faith in the squad assembled.

Pools, who signed 14 players this summer, have endured a rocky few weeks following three straight defeats to Sutton United, Eastleigh and Halifax Town away on Tuesday evening. It has led to question marks over the squad and whether Pools have left themselves short in key areas, including central midfield.
