Hebburn Town boss delighted with deal for Hartlepool United youngster Campbell Darcy

Hartlepool United youngster Campbell Darcy has returned to Hebburn Town for a second loan spell with the Northern Premier League club.

Hebburn Town have been handed a ‘massive lift’ after Hartlepool United youngster Campbell Darcy returned to the Northern Premier League title challengers for a second loan spell.

The versatile 19-year-old has made a handful of senior appearances since making his first-team league debut as a late substitute in a home game against Aldershot Town in the final month of last season after an initial appearance came in the FA Cup third round defeat against Stoke City in January 2023. Darcy was handed an opportunity to impress during the first loan spell of his career earlier this season when he joined Hebburn on an initial one-month loan spell in September before that was extended to the turn of the year.

The youngster rose to the challenge during his time with Daniel Moore’s side as he produced a number of eye-catching displays that helped the Hornets in their push for a historic promotion into the National League North. He will now return for a second stint after Pools agreed to another initial one-month loan deal and Hebburn boss Moore is delighted to have Darcy back in his ranks.

He said: “There was interest in him from the division above us but I think for the player and Hartlepool, they wanted him to be playing regularly and enjoying his football. It was good for Hartlepool that he was getting that here and we know he will get that again. He understands what we are about, he was settled with us and we’ve only missed him for two or three games so it’s just like he’s never been away really. He joined us for training this week and he’s happy to be back and we are happy to have him back. It’s a big signing for us, it adds more depth and it has given everyone a massive lift ahead of Saturday.”

Darcy will hope to kickstart his second spell with the Hornets when they host Premier Division rivals Ashton United at the Trustmark Group stadium on Saturday afternoon. Hebburn could actually move to the top of the table if they can claim all three points and promotion rivals FC United of Manchester and Hednesford Town fail to take maximum points from their respective fixtures.

Moore believes Darcy can play a key role in helping his side in their unexpected push for promotion and hopes the Pools youngster can continue to flourish in a new position on the right-hand side of his front three.

He said: “I have spoken to Hartlepool, they have watched our games, and they’ve enjoyed what we have done with Campbell. He’s played in a position they’ve not seen him in and they can see his development. They’ve put their trust in us and despite that interest from outside of the area, he has come to us and it’s good that they’ve got a kid now on their doorstep. They know our league position, they know we want to do something many think is unachievable and Campbell will hopefully be part of that.”
