Middlesbrough boss Jonathan Woodgate has already admitted he is looking to bring in new players ahead of the second half of the season, and names are already being linked with a move to Teesside.

Woodgate has previously said that Boro could explore the loan market when looking for new recruits, which may mean signing players from Premier League clubs.

One player who has been linked with a move to the Riverside is Tottenham winger Jack Clarke, 19, with Spurs expected to activate the teenager’s release clause from Leeds.

Clarke, who came through Leeds’ academy, signed for Tottenham for a reported £9.5million in the summer but was loaned straight back to Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Yet Clarke has made just one Championship appearance for the Whites this season, leading to uncertainty about his future.

According to Football Insider, Boro and Derby are plotting a move for the winger while Fulham are also keen.

The report claims Bielsa wants to keep the player, yet Spurs will have the final say.

Another player who has been linked with Boro is Peterborough playmaker Marcus Maddison.

The 26-year-old, who came through the academy at Newcastle, is out of contract at the end of the season but has a release clause in his contract.

And, according to Football Insider, Boro are ready to activate the £2.6million fee to sign Maddison in January.

Maddison has scored nine goals in 17 League One appearances for Posh this season.
