A talk will focus particularly on Hart Manor near Hartlepool where a 2016 excavation uncovered 365 burials, including children, adults and unusual multiple graves.

Their remains revealed evidence of childhood illness and nutritional stress, including scurvy and rickets.

And although many adults lived into mature adulthood, their skeletons record the physical demands of everyday life, including manual labour, accidents and repeated injuries.

A number also had injuries including blade wounds and decapitation pointing to some particular violent event or raid.

The event takes place in the Jim Cooke Suite at Stockton Central Library, Church Road, from 9.30am to 4pm.

It is £25 for adults and £15 for students, including tea and coffee and a buffet lunch.

To book, visit Hartlepool Art Gallery in Church Square or call (01429) 869706.

Tees Archaeology is also inviting people to join them on a fieldwalking event on September 23 and 24 at Marsh House Farm, in Greatham.

Fieldwalking involves collecting every item you find on the ground within a gridded area for later archaeological assessment. No experience is required and full training will be provided.

The event is free and is open to ages 16-plus. To book, see www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/1998951830736?aff=oddtdtcreator
