Hartlepool’s annual sports awards is back for another year and nominations are now open to recognise exceptional sports achievers across the town.

The Gus Robinson Hartlepool Sport Awards, formerly known as the Hartlepool Sports Council Awards, is searching for the town’s best sporting achievements over the past 12 months, focusing on clubs, schools and individuals.

In its 44th year, the sports awards has been re-branded in tribute to Gus Robinson, a popular boxing promoter before his death in 2011.

The decision came after the Gus Robinson Foundation became part of The PFC Trust earlier this year.

The awards night is taking place on Wednesday, November 29, at the Hartlepool College of Further Education, in Stockton Street.

Kelly Brooks, operations manager for The PFC Trust, said: “For more than 40 years, the Hartlepool Sports Council has been identifying talented athletes and supporting them with small grants and an annual awards ceremony.

"These awards are a fantastic way to celebrate the fantastic sporting achievements across Hartlepool’s clubs and schools, and this years are extra special because they will recognise the work Gus Robinson and the Gus Robinson Foundation has done to help sport in this area.
