Hartlepool United manager Dave Challinor reveals the clever thinking behind the substitution of former Sunderland winger Luke Molyneux against Notts County

The former Sunderland youngster made his second start of the season against the Magpies as Nicky Featherstone’s brace helped Pools to another three points at Victoria Park.

Just as Molyneux was set to tick off another milestone by completing his first full match of the season, United manager Dave Challinor decided to withdraw the winger in what was a purely tactical change to run down the clock.

“I didn’t take him off because he was tired, I took him off tactically more than anything,” he admitted.
