Neil Warnock reacts as ex-Charlton man earns new Middlesbrough deal ahead of Norwich clash

Middlesbrough boss Neil Warnock says defender Anfernee Dijksteel ‘really deserves’ his new four-and-a-half-year contract after putting pen to paper at the Riverside.

The 24-year-old has played every minute of every league game this season and become a key member of Warnock’s side in recent months.

Dijksteel joined Boro from Charlton in the summer of 2019 but suffered a lengthy knee injury last November.

Since then the Dutchman has gone from strength to strength under Warnock, impressing as a right-sided centre-back and as a full-back.

"I'm absolutely delighted," Warnock told the club’s website. "He really deserves it.

"He's worked ever so hard since I came here, and I've been really pleased with the improvement he's shown in his overall game.

"He's a great signing for Middlesbrough for the next few years."

Dijksteel’s new deal will run until the summer of 2024.

Boro have conceded just five league goals this season and kept six clean sheets in their last seven games ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Norwich.
